The Canary Island Archipelago possesses a wide variety of fauna and flora amongst it's lands and domains. There are also lots of dry areas as well though. Of the entire Archipelago, Tenerife is the Island that presents the most variety of flora, with more than 500 different endangered species. The fauna grows more than 7,000 vertebrae and invertebrae species. The flora and fauna in Tenerife, Canary Islands has it's own climate, a series of different microclimates that makes this island in Spain unique, rich and varied. Both the fauna and flora take advantage of the diversity of the Canary Island to grow in number and diversity. There are more than 1,000 different types of plants, from which 100 are exclusively from the island. The diversity of flora and fauna along with the microclimate create a ground floor for the interrelation of the plants and animals.
The value the ecosystem of Tenerife must be divided by 6 different areas due to the climate, location and much more.
On the other hand the area of Cardonal which is basically bushes adapted to dry land are in an area that is 700 meters above sea level.
Between 200-600 meters you'll find a transition zone called Termofilos forest with a great number of endangered species.
The other area of Laurisilva that measures up to 1000 meters above sea level is the area of the Pinetrees.
2000 meters above sea level take you to the tops of the mountain where the flora is special, with rich and colorful plants that besides the adversities still grow in this area. Flora and fauna in the Teide Natural Park is located on this island, and is the highest moutnain in Spain. |
