Tenerife is an island that has 31 municipalities. The main one is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Other main cities are those of Los Realejos or Puerto de la Cruz, this last one is the smallest of the islands. Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain has a population of almost one million inhabitants. The capital is Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is the most important as it has a surface area covering the municipality of La Orotava that measures 10kms2 and in whose domains lies the Teide National Park.
Each of the Tenerife municipalities have a coastal area except for three that lie in the interior, being Vilaflor, Tegueste, and El Tanque. Other important cities are San Cristobal de la Laguna, where the unviveristy is lcoated as well as Tacoronte or Santiago del Teide.
In Tenerife the population is of about one million. 221,000 live in Santa Cruz, 142,000 livie in San Cristobal de la Laguna, 65,000 in Arona (the third most populated city), and 40,000 in La Orotava. These four municipalities are the most heavily populated on the island, they hold more than 50% of the population of Tenerife. Puerto de la Cruz is the 5th most populated town being the smallest. The municipality that has the lowest population of only 1900 inhabitants is Vilaflor.
The rest of the localities of the island of Tenerife are Playa de las Americas, Arafo, Arico, Buenavista del Norte, Candelaria, Fasnia, Garachico, Granadilla del Abona, La Guancha, Guia de Isora, Guimar, Icod del los Vinos, La Matanza de Acentejo, El Rosario, San Juan de la Rambla, San Miguel de Abona, Santa Ursula, El Sauzal, Los Silos and La Victoria de Acentejo. |
